Sussing out the fuss with Culottes

Monday, February 06, 2017

If I had have been handed a pair of culottes a few months ago I would have handed them right back. Shapeless, short and unnecessarily baggy I could not understand the appeal to them. Yet every second person was uploading a picture to Facebook of themselves wearing a pair. Fast forward to a Monday morning in February and I have three tabs opened on my laptop - Asos, Boohoo and Zara and I'm trying to source the best culottes to add to my basket. Also trying to block out the fact that I do not actually have the money for them. I can think about that next week when I'm trying to source the next family member to borrow petrol money from.

I fought long and hard against being another person on the newsfeed wearing a pastel coloured Missguided co ord culottes set. After accepting that I could literally hide no longer from the culottes trend I recently ordered a pair to suss out what the fuss was about. I swore I wouldn't order a pastel colour to team with some strappy heeled sandals because where was the fun in that?? From the first wear I haven't looked back and I now want them in every fabric, every colour and every style. Hence the three tabs opened on my laptop right now and my brain trying to conclude what pleated grey culottes I'm taking.

YOU CAN LITERALY WEAR THEM WITH EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE. My mind is honestly baffled by the comfort of the unnecessary bagginess of them. The first time I wore these Boohoo black culottes was to a Twin Atlantic gig. While everybody was looking up and trying to touch the face of Sam McTrusty, I was looking down swinging those wide culottes about marvelling at how short they were and how acceptable this was.

The first time wearing them for the gig, I went for a H&M flared sleeve black crop top, however, I wasn't a blogger back then. So the only photo evidence I have of this first unveiling of the culottes is a picture taken on my phone by my boyfriend, to send to my mum with the caption "WOT U THINK MUM". Along with my first ever badly taken mirror selfie which is on my Instagram.

For this post I opted to go casual with a back polo neck, simply because they go with literally everything. Not wanting to look like a dementor from Harry Potter I wore these Dorothy Perkins floral boots in order to try and stay away from black on black on black.

Big up my mum for these Dorothy Perkins boots for Christmas

Expect to see these culottes again on my blog worn with different things and probably several more pairs when I decide what ones to go for next!

  32. I remember owning culottes way back in the late 80s/early 90s when they were all the rage. Don't know if I am too short as an adult to wear them though, they'd make my already short legs look even shorter! :)
